Fun in the Sun

With the grandparents in town, Evelyn and I escaped for a week of
fun in Cuba.

I got to ride these a few times but it ended after a pedal fell off
5 km or so from the resort, that`s a long way to Fred Flintstone,
yabba-dabba-doo

The weather was great and the snorkeling was spectacular, like
swimming in a fish tank. I managed to swim enough to not put
on any more weight at an all inclusive, let me tell you that takes
a lot of swimming, at one point I could see Key West.

The area we were in was hit very hard by hurricane Ike in September,
the number of destroyed homes is amazing. Sad but the locals seemed
pretty pragmatic about it all.

I gotta start riding again soon though.

Playing hooky

On Friday, I convinced Lenny to skip out of work early to go for a ride. It was too beautiful out to be stuck in a cubicle in front of a computer. Didn't take much convincing for Lenny to go along with my plan.

Lenny and I coordinated our rendez-vous perfectly; we arrived at our meeting point at the Nepean Sailing club at the same time. Lenny mistakenly thought we were going cross country skiing because he was dressed in about nine layers and, all in black to boot!! Needless to say he was feeling a little warm!

"You think I am over-dressed??!"

We didn't have a route planned out, so we headed off south-west and hit some of the quieter country roads. It was a bit windy but nothing as bad as last Saturday and the wind was not freezing. We saw a few roadies who refused to acknowledge our existence - one in a Cyclery Kit and another in a Rock Racing kit (both lifted their noses as we waved at them...). We came across a couple other "non-kitted" riders who actually waved at us first - must have been mountain-bikers on road bikes!

For the most part, we enjoyed some fairly quiet country roads except near mid-point when we had to duck and dive through Kanata.

Still some snow left in the country-side

I like riding with Lenny for a few reasons, we don't try to tear each other's legs off and Lenny always brings along lots of his home-made engergy bars and they are delicious!

Handing out Lenny-bars...

...and they were tasty!

We ending up riding just over 60 kms - certainly beats being chained to a desk!

Sunday Funday

Got out for a late winter snow ride early this morning. Once the sun came up it slowed down but before that it was great. Not many snow rides left this year. After lunch I got a nice warm ride in with my sweet pea in her chariot. Great day.

Two cool

I stumbled onto this 24 hour race a few days ago and then today I saw something about it on the OMBA website. I think it looks like a really cool event so I figured I put a little plug for the event on here.

The race is called LIFE$TYLE$ OF THE RICH & FAMOU$ and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the event. The 2009 event will be held on May 16th and 17th and the race is run from the Mansfield Outdoor Center. I've never ridden there but I've heard (and read) good things about their trails so that's a good basis for it being a good event.

The next thing that I thought sounded great about this event is that instead of staying in tents they provide cabins for the participants! I like camping and all but it would be nice to not have to haul that type of gear to an event and only have to worry about the bike gear. And that's not to mention having a hot shower whenever you want! The next thing I thought about is food. Well as it turns out they've got you covered there too! Meals are provided.

Cost wise the event doesn't cost much more that the other events that I have participated in. A 5 person team is $900 which I think is pretty reasonable considering what they are offering. They usually sell out pretty quick but as it turns out there are still 3 team spots available for this year's race. Here's a link with more info if you want it.

As the title of this post suggests (two cool) I have something else to show you... here is a pic of the coolest ever Birthday Cake. Notice the number of candles, 10... that's right I'm only 10!!! Phew, good thing too because Tanya had me thinking I was getting old.

Happy Birthday to Lenny!

He's turning a year older tomorrow. What are you up to now, Lenny? Are you 50 yet?!?

Happy Birthday Lenny!

I didn't have any of yours truly, now there's some evidence that I haven't gone completely soft.

Sunday Fun

Saturday night I see a post on OMBA about some ice track racing, I'm in for this as it can only be a circus. One of the guys built a mini bmx style track during the warm spell and when it went to minus 20 it shaped up like concrete.

Kind of intimidating especially the jumps into the berms, thankfully the berms were excellent. Spikes, not studs, were mandatory.

Surprising how big a hurt you can put on your legs with 45 second sprints.
Awesome fun, thanks Chris
